How does the online multiplayer on Battlefield 3 work?

I bought Battlefield 3 today and have played a bit of the campaign. I now want to know how the online multiplayer works. Are there different game modes? What maps are there? Is a game mode involving free for all? Can you create your own private matches and invite players? If you are experienced with Battlefield 3 and play it online in multiplayer please answer in detail. I have Xbox Live not PSN. I want to know how the multiplayer works before playing on it.How does the online multiplayer on Battlefield 3 work?
The multiplayer is very FUN. In the multiplayer you can drive different kinds of vehicles. Including jets, tanks, helicopters, and more. Each map includes different kinds of vehicles, so if the map is let's say, a small town. Then the map will be focused on infantry combat and most likely the vehicles will be transport or APC vehicles. Yes, there are different kinds of game modes, including Conquest, Rush, Team Deathmatch. However, there is no Free For All because Battlefield 3 is a team game, not like the CoD series. Right now you cannot make private matches, but you can join an empty server and invite your friends. In the Rush game mode, some maps have jets. But only one jet per team. On Conquest, the objective it to capture all the flags in the map and hold them until your enemy runs out of tickets. Your enemy team will lose tickets if you capture more flags than their team. On Rush, there are two teams, Attackers and Defenders. The objective of Attackers is to destroy the objective bomb. Defenders must defend the bombs. If the Attackers' tickets drops down to 0, the Attackers will lose and the Defenders will achieve victory.
